Islamabad: President Asif Ali Zardari has said in his message on the 17th martyrdom anniversary of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto that Benazir’s struggle is a beacon of light for all of us.
In his statement, President Zardari said that on the 17th martyrdom anniversary of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, we pay tribute to her. She was an embodiment of hope, perseverance, unwavering commitment to the principles of democracy and justice and was a beacon of light for all of us.
Asif Ali Zardari said that Benazir Bhutto dreamed of a Pakistan where people’s power would rule. Shaheed Benazir’s words “democracy is the best revenge” were a resounding response to tyranny and dictatorship, while Benazir Bhutto had deep faith in people’s power.
He said that Shaheed Benazir Bhutto wanted a Pakistan where every child has access to education, Shaheed Benazir Bhutto wanted a Pakistan where justice is not a luxury but a right, Shaheed Bibi spent her entire life working for the autonomy of the oppressed sections of society.
He said that Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto’s life was a journey of immense courage, Shaheed Benazir Bhutto was a source of inspiration and courage for us, she stood firm against dictatorships for the restoration and stability of democracy, and for the political, economic and social rights of the people.
Asif Ali Zardari said that Shaheed Benazir said in vivid words that “the fight against injustice and oppression is the fight of my life”.
He said that Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto is still alive in the hearts of millions of people, I reiterate Shaheed Benazir Bhutto’s determination to carry forward her vision of a peaceful, progressive and democratic Pakistan, her ideology is still alive today.
The President said that Shaheed Bibi taught us to work for the construction of a united, inclusive and just Pakistan. Bhutto and our family sacrificed their lives for democracy and Pakistan. The President said that we as a nation need to learn from Shaheed Bibi’s vision to get the country out of the current challenges. Let us work together to fulfill Shaheed Benazir Bhutto’s dream of a peaceful, progressive and democratic Pakistan.
