Lahore: The Lahore High Court has reserved its decision on the petition against the jurisdictional hearing of Shahbaz Sharif’s Rs 10 billion defamation case.
The court reserved its decision after hearing the arguments of the petitioner’s lawyer. Justice Chaudhry Muhammad Iqbal heard the petition of the founding chairman of PTI.
The petitioner’s lawyer presented the decisions of the higher courts. The lawyer, the founding chairman of PTI, said that the higher courts have interpreted the district court as written in the law.
The petition took the position that Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif filed a claim for Rs 10 billion in damages, but the district judge does not have the authority to hear a claim worth Rs 10 billion. The district judge can only hear a claim up to Rs 50 million, while the district court can try a defamation claim of Rs 10 billion. The Chief Justice of the Lahore High Court notifies the district court.
The petition requested that the court order the district judge to stop hearing the defamation case and constitute a district court to hear the claim.
