Riyadh: A new wave of severe cold has entered Saudi Arabia, due to which the temperature is likely to drop below freezing point in the northern and central regions.
Meteorologists have described this cold wave as “Bard al-Ajouj” (old woman’s cold), which usually comes before spring.
According to the Saudi Meteorological Department, a severe cold wave will continue in the northern and northeastern regions until Wednesday, the effects of which will also be felt in the central regions.
Temperatures may drop below zero degrees in the morning, while in the central regions it is likely to remain between 0 and 4 degrees Celsius, due to which effects such as fog and freezing water can be seen.
Strong winds and dust storms have also been predicted in Riyadh and Najran, including Mecca, Medina, Tabuk, and the Eastern Province.
According to meteorologist Dr. Abdullah Al-Musnad, this severe cold wave entered northern Saudi Arabia on Friday and its effects will intensify in Riyadh, the Eastern Province and Najran by Sunday.
According to experts, there is also a possibility of snowfall in the northern regions, especially in areas above 800 meters on Monday and Tuesday night.
Temperatures will gradually start to rise as Ramadan approaches, but temperatures in the northern regions may remain below freezing for five days.
