Baghdad: Foreign media have claimed that a number of American soldiers have been injured in a rocket attack on an American military base in Iraq.
According to reports, the rocket attack took place on al-Assad base in Anbar province of Iraq, foreign media say that US officials have confirmed the attack.
Three US officials have told the World News Agency that a number of US personnel have been injured in an attack on a military base in Iraq.
Officials said on condition of anonymity that the suspected rocket attack was carried out on al-Assad Air Base in Iraq. He said he was referring to preliminary information that could change.
An official added that 20 personnel were assessing the damage after the attack.
Two Katyusha rockets were fired at the military base in western Iraq, which landed inside the base, security sources said.
Last week, the United States launched strikes in Iraq against what U.S. officials said were preparing to shoot down militant drones and posed a threat to U.S. and coalition forces.
The Pentagon has said it will deploy additional fighter jets and warships to the Middle East as Washington seeks to bolster its defenses after threats from Iran and its allies Hamas and Hezbollah.
