The US has ended the reward for capture of Syrian leader Ahmed al-Sharaa.
According to US media, Barbara Leaf, the senior US diplomat for the Middle East, told reporters after meeting with Ahmed al-Sharaa in Damascus that the US has ended the reward for capture of Ahmed al-Sharaa. The purpose of ending the reward for capture of al-Sharaa is to welcome his pledge to fight terrorism and other positive steps. We will monitor al-Sharaa’s actions moving forward.
The US diplomat further said that we fully support a Syrian-led political process that is owned by Syria and results in an inclusive and representative government that respects the rights of all, including women and diverse ethnic and religious communities.
The US had set a reward for capture of Syria’s new leader Ahmed al-Sharaa for several years. Al-Sharaa is the head of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), a Syrian Islamist group whose leadership brought an end to the authoritarian and oppressive rule of the Assad family, which had ruled Syria for nearly half a century.
