Pakistani English novelist Bapsi Sidhwa has passed away in Houston, US after a long illness.
She was a renowned Pakistani novelist of Gujarati-Parsi-Zoroastrian descent, best known for her collaborations with Indo-Canadian filmmaker Deepa Mehta.
Bapsi Sidhwa’s literary career spanned decades, with notable works including “The Crow Eaters”, “The Bride”, “Ice Candy Man” (also published as “Cracking India”), and “An American Brat”.
Her fiction dealt with issues of identity, culture, and social issues, providing a unique perspective on Indian and Pakistani history, politics, and culture.
Sidhwa received numerous awards and honours for her contributions to literature, including the Sitara-e-Imtiaz, Pakistan’s highest national honour in the arts, in 1991.
