Islamabad: Sugar Advisory Board has recommended to export 40 thousand metric tons of sugar.
A meeting of the Sugar Advisory Board was held under the chairmanship of Industry and Production Minister Rana Tanveer Hussain in which the availability and prices of sugar stocks in the country were reviewed. It was informed in the briefing that the country currently has 28 lakh metric tonnes of sugar in stock and there is a surplus amount.
The advisory board recommended exporting 40,000 metric tons of sugar to Tajikistan. The export of sugar to Tajikistan will be at the government level.
Deciding to separate the retail price of sugar from the export, the statement said that the retail price has nothing to do with the Sugar Mills Association, the arrears will be paid to the rest of the sugarcane growers on behalf of the sugar mill owners. District administrations will control the retail price of sugar.
According to the announcement, the FBR and CAN commissioners will re-check the availability of sugar stock in the country and submit a reconciliation report in the upcoming meeting of the Sugar Advisory Board. The decision to export additional sugar will be taken in the light of the report.
