Rana Sanaullah Says PTI Founder’s Children Not Visiting Pakistan Is Not Surprising

Islamabad: Senior PML-N Leader Responds to Media Queries

In a recent media interaction in Islamabad, senior leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and advisor to the Prime Minister, Rana Sanaullah, addressed questions about the absence of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder’s children from the country. He stated that their decision to stay away from Pakistan is neither unusual nor unexpected, given that they have historically maintained a distance from domestic political affairs.

Sanaullah noted that, despite their father’s high-profile political career, the children have never shown an inclination to participate in political events or public appearances in Pakistan, even during their father’s tenure as Prime Minister. He pointed out that they were absent from major milestones, including their father’s oath-taking ceremony, and have not visited Pakistan in the years since.

Visa Will Be Issued If Requested

Rana Sanaullah clarified that there is no legal or procedural obstacle preventing the PTI founder’s children from visiting Pakistan. He stated that if they apply for visas, the current government will issue them without hesitation.

However, he suggested that in the present political climate, it may be wiser for them to remain abroad. “Given the circumstances and the ongoing political tensions, it is probably better for them to stay away,” Sanaullah remarked.

Background: PTI Founder’s Family and Political Distance

The PTI founder’s children, who reside abroad, have consistently kept themselves away from the political spotlight in Pakistan. Unlike the children of many other political figures who are often seen accompanying their parents during rallies, campaigns, or official functions, they have chosen a low-profile lifestyle, primarily staying overseas.

Political analysts often highlight that the PTI founder’s family strategy may be aimed at avoiding political controversies and maintaining personal safety, particularly during times of heightened political unrest.

Meeting Between PM Shehbaz Sharif and Bilawal Bhutto Zardari

During the press interaction, Rana Sanaullah also addressed the recent meeting between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari. He emphasized that the meeting should not be given a political spin, as its primary purpose was condolence.

According to Sanaullah, Bilawal visited to offer condolences to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif over a personal loss, and while the two leaders did engage in some general conversation, no formal political discussions or deals took place.

Coalition Government Confident in Its Political Strategy

Rana Sanaullah reassured that the coalition government—comprising multiple political parties—remains united and confident in its political decisions. He said the leadership possesses the political awareness and mutual understanding necessary to navigate the complex challenges facing Pakistan.

He further stressed that the government’s focus remains on addressing the pressing issues of inflation, unemployment, and economic recovery. Sanaullah revealed that the coalition intends to take serious and concrete steps over the next two to three years to deliver visible results for the public.

The Political Context and Current Climate

The remarks from Rana Sanaullah come at a time when Pakistan’s political scene remains tense, with multiple ongoing cases, protests, and a polarized public sentiment. The absence of the PTI founder’s children from Pakistan has been repeatedly discussed on television talk shows and social media, often with speculative commentary about their reasons.

Supporters of PTI argue that their absence is a personal choice and unrelated to political events, while critics claim it reflects a lack of attachment to the country.

Key Points From Rana Sanaullah’s Statement

  1. No Surprise in Their Absence – The children have historically stayed away from political events in Pakistan.
  2. Visa Will Be Granted If Requested – Government will not block their entry if they apply for a visa.
  3. Political Meeting Misconceptions – The Shehbaz-Bilawal meeting was for condolence, not political negotiation.
  4. Coalition’s Confidence – The government remains steady in its political strategy and plans for governance.
  5. Future Governance Goals – The coalition aims to address major public issues within two to three years.

Analysis: Why the Absence Is Politically Relevant

While Rana Sanaullah downplayed the matter, political observers note that the symbolism of family presence often plays a role in Pakistan’s political narrative. The absence of a leader’s children from public events can be interpreted in different ways:

  • Supporters may see it as an effort to keep family life private and free from political attacks.
  • Critics may argue it suggests disconnection from the country’s struggles.

In either case, the topic continues to surface in political debates, especially when the PTI founder faces legal or political challenges.

Conclusion: A Statement That May Calm Speculation

By openly stating that the government will not obstruct the PTI founder’s children from visiting Pakistan, Rana Sanaullah’s remarks may reduce speculation about possible political victimization. His comments also shift the focus towards the coalition government’s governance priorities, reinforcing a message of political stability and forward planning.

In Pakistan’s highly charged political atmosphere, such statements can play a role in lowering tensions—although whether they will actually do so remains to be seen.
