Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders holding official positions in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government will have to resign from their positions for the party’s restructuring in the province.
The decision was announced by PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja after meeting Imran Khan in jail on Tuesday.
Talking to reporters outside Adiala Jail, Salman Akram Raja said that the decision has been taken to empower PTI Khyber Pakhtunkhwa President Junaid Akbar to restructure the party.
Last month, Junaid Akbar was made the party’s president in KP in place of Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur.
In response to a question, Salman Akram Raja said that Imran Khan has clearly said that he will stand with the party leaders, and those who have been expelled from the party have no connection with PTI.
This was clearly a reference to Sher Afzal Marwat and Fawad Chaudhry, who were expelled from the party.
Salman Akram Raja added that those who did not have contact with the party leadership during the voting on the 26th Constitutional Amendment in Parliament would be questioned personally.
The PTI leader said that he briefed Imran Khan about the party leaders’ recent visit to Sindh, with Salman Akram Raja claiming that Imran Khan had pledged to continue fighting for the rights of the people of Sindh.
He added that the PTI founder was being deprived of his rights in jail, and revealed that he would write a letter to the Chief Justice of Pakistan on Imran Khan’s behalf.
