ISLAMABAD: PTI has once again urged the PML-N government to immediately start the process of appointing a new Chief Election Commissioner instead of hiding behind the 26th Constitutional Amendment.
PTI has reminded the government for the second time to start the process of appointing a new Chief Election Commissioner. Meanwhile, the government has remained completely silent on the letters of the opposition leaders in the National Assembly and Senate for appointment to this important constitutional post, in which they have demanded that the Prime Minister start the process of appointing a new chief and two members.
PTI Information Secretary Sheikh Waqas Akram described Sikandar Sultan Raja as the most controversial figure in the country’s electoral history and said that the stain of large-scale rigging in the February 8 general elections will always remain on him. His term of office expired on January 26. He can continue to perform his duties until the appointment of a new chief under the 26th Constitutional Amendment. The government should avoid causing further damage to the Election Commission.
He said that the government is bent on damaging all state institutions to protect its interests. To restore the declining reputation of this important constitutional institution, an impartial and unblemished person should be immediately appointed as the Chief Election Commissioner. He said that the people will not sit idly by until the stolen mandate is returned and those responsible for this fraud, facilitators and beneficiaries are held accountable. Omar Ayub, Speaker National Assembly and Shibli Faraz, Chairman Senate have written letters to the National Assembly and Shibli Faraz, Chairman Senate, for the immediate appointment of a new Chief Election Commissioner, but no response was received.
