Islamabad: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf has challenged the 26th Constitutional Amendment in the Supreme Court.
PTI has approached the Supreme Court to declare the 26th Constitutional Amendment null and void.
In the petition filed in the Supreme Court, PTI has also requested to prevent the Judicial Commission from appointing judges until a decision is made on the constitutional amendment. The petition has said that the 26th Constitutional Amendment should be declared null and void.
The petition has requested the court to declare all measures taken under the 26th Constitutional Amendment null and void. Parliament cannot change the basic features of the Constitution.
PTI’s petition has taken the position that the independence of the judiciary is a fundamental part of the Constitution. No amendment can be made against the independence of the judiciary. The constitutional amendment is against the constitutional principle of separation of powers.
Special arrangements for the hearing of the 26th Constitutional Amendment in the Supreme Court
It should be noted that special arrangements have been made in the Supreme Court building during the hearing of the 26th Constitutional Amendment cases in the Supreme Court.
A statement issued by the Supreme Court spokesperson said that the larger bench will hear the 26th Constitutional Amendment cases in the Supreme Court on January 27. Special security measures have been taken to improve security in the Supreme Court on Monday for the convenience of the parties and the smooth conduct of court affairs.
No one will accept the 26th Constitutional Amendment if it is repealed by any institution other than Parliament, Bilawal
In addition, Chairman PPP Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, while talking to the media yesterday, had said that no one will accept it if the 26th Constitutional Amendment is repealed by any institution other than Parliament.
Talking about the 26th Amendment, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said that no one can abolish it except the Parliament and if any institution abolishes it, neither we nor anyone else will accept it.
Only Parliament will abolish the 26th Constitutional Amendment, Liaquat Baloch
Meanwhile, Naib Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan Liaquat Baloch has said that only Parliament will abolish the 26th Constitutional Amendment and the independence of the judiciary will be restored.
