By changing the schedule of the National Assembly session, it will be held today (Friday) at 6 pm instead of 11 am under the chairmanship of Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq.
The National Assembly Secretariat released the 8-point agenda of the meeting.
A bill to set up special courts for cases related to properties of overseas Pakistanis will come up for approval, as will the Deposit Protection Corporation Amendment Bill, 2024.
The Federal Minister for Parliamentary Affairs will present the bill to amend the National Commission for Women Act, while the Federal Minister for Housing and Works will present the bill for the establishment of Pakistan Infrastructure Development and Asset Management Authority.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar will present the implementation of the International Convention on the Prohibition of the Production and Purchase of Biological Weapons in Kabul.
According to the ongoing agenda, a notice calling attention to the alleged negligence in the collection of general sales tax will be presented while the report of the Standing Committee on Law and Justice on the Legal and Justice Authority Amendment Bill, 2024 will be presented.
The usual agenda of the National Assembly has also been released, which does not mention the introduction of the bill related to the legislation of the twenty-sixth constitutional amendment.
It should be noted that the Muslim League (N) government has been making efforts to ensure the approval of an important constitutional amendment since last month.
On September 16, the meeting of the National Assembly was adjourned indefinitely due to the lack of consensus regarding the 26th amendment to the Constitution and the government not getting the required two-thirds majority.
Despite the whole day’s efforts, the approval of the amendment was postponed indefinitely after failing to convince the opposition, especially Maulana Fazlur Rehman, on the constitutional package.
After that, a special committee was formed to consult on the constitutional amendment, which included representatives of all parties, and during this time, the opposition, including Maulana Fazlur Rahman, has been struggling to convince.
