Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will visit Cairo, the capital of Egypt, from today to December 20 to attend the summit of the Organization of 8 Developing Countries (D-8).
D-8 is an economic cooperation organization, its member countries include Pakistan, Egypt, Bangladesh, Malaysia, Nigeria, Indonesia, Iran and Turkey.
A statement issued by the Foreign Office spokesperson said that the Prime Minister will attend the 11th summit of the Developing Countries (D-8).
The Prime Minister will go to Egypt on an official visit, while Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar will attend the 21st meeting of the D-8 Council of Ministers on December 18, 2024.
It was further said that the theme of the 11th D-8 Summit is ‘Investing in Youth and Supporting SMEs (Small and Medium Enterprises): Shaping the Economy of Tomorrow’.
The Foreign Office spokesperson said in the statement that the Prime Minister will also express Pakistan’s strong commitment to the ideals of the D-8, in addition to emphasizing the importance of promoting partnerships for mutual benefit and prosperity, and promoting cooperation in agriculture, food security and tourism.
According to the press release, Shehbaz Sharif is also expected to attend a special meeting of the D-8 on the humanitarian crisis and reconstruction challenges in Gaza and Lebanon, in which the situation arising as a result of Israeli aggression in the Middle East will be considered.
The statement further said that he will highlight Pakistan’s position on the situation in the region and call for peace.
According to the Foreign Office spokesperson, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is also expected to hold bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the summit.
