Islamabad: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif met with Uzbek Ambassador Alisher Takhtayev at the Prime Minister’s House.
In the meeting, the Prime Minister conveyed his best wishes to President Shavkat Mirziyoyev through the Uzbek Ambassador and expressed his heartfelt gratitude for the hospitality extended to him and the Pakistani delegation during his visit to Tashkent last month.
The Prime Minister expressed satisfaction over the excellent progress made in bilateral relations between the two countries during his visit, which includes the formation of a High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council as well as the signing of several important agreements and memorandums of understanding in various sectors.
The Prime Minister said that upon his return from Tashkent, he has entrusted the ministers of the relevant sectors with the responsibility to ensure immediate implementation of the decisions taken during the visit.
He highlighted Pakistan’s interest in enhancing cooperation with Uzbekistan, particularly in mining and minerals, railways (including the Trans-Afghan Railway Project), SEZs, banking, tourism, culture and renewable energy.
The Prime Minister also stressed the need to formulate a roadmap to work towards increasing bilateral trade to $2 billion, which was agreed upon between the two leaders during the visit.
The Uzbek Ambassador thanked the Prime Minister for his good wishes and said that President Shavkat Mirziyoyev is committed to strengthening Uzbekistan’s relations with Pakistan and transforming the excellent political relations between the two countries into mutually beneficial economic relations.
He also informed that President Mirziyoyev has accepted the Prime Minister’s invitation to pay an official visit to Pakistan later this year, for which the dates are being agreed upon between the two sides.
