Lahore: In Punjab, police are on high alert across the province, including the capital Lahore. Meanwhile, more than 65,000 officers and employees are on security duty.
According to IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar, security has been increased for the processions and gatherings of the 9th of Muharram. Today, 1686 Muharram processions and 3853 Majlis will be organized across the province including Lahore. Including 194 processions and 345 Majlis of A category. In the provincial capital Lahore, 79 processions will be held today and 378 majalis are being held, including 24 processions and 46 majalis of category A.
He said that more than 65,000 officers and personnel are on security duty throughout the province including Lahore during the 9th of Muharram. More than 10,000 officers and personnel are posted on security duty on the ninth of Muharram in Lahore. Meanwhile, implementation of section 144 enforced by the provincial government will be ensured in any case.
IG Punjab said that RPOs, CPOs, DPOs are monitoring all security arrangements themselves. Security arrangements are being continuously monitored from control rooms established in all districts including Safe Cities Authority, Central Police Office. Security arrangements are being ensured with modern devices including CCTV cameras, walk-through gates, metal detectors. All resources are being used for the security of the main processions and assemblies of Ashura Day.
He said that snipers have been deployed on the roofs of the buildings on the routes of the processions, and commandos in plain clothes have been deployed along with the processions. Community leaders will ensure a peaceful celebration of 9th Muharram with the support of administration and security agencies. Provincial Ministers, Ulemas, Armed Forces, Rangers, Security Agencies have full support. Double riding is also prohibited. Mobile service will be partially restricted at certain locations and times as required.
