Peshawar: The Peshawar High Court has ordered the Election Commission of Pakistan to resolve the issue of the country’s upper house (Senate) election soon and sought a response by January 16.
A petition filed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for holding Senate elections was heard. A two-member bench comprising Chief Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim and Justice Waqar Ahmed heard the petition.
Petitioner Ali Zaman Advocate said that a petition has been filed to hold Senate elections. The Election Commission lawyer said that a meeting was held on December 10 regarding the Senate election. Consultations are still ongoing on this. The reserved seats petition is pending in the Supreme Court. They are also looking into it.
Chief Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim said that we give you two weeks’ time. The Election Commission lawyer requested that the time be extended a little, it will take some time, please tell us which date.
The Election Commission lawyer said that keep this case pending and we will submit the answer, the Chief Justice said that we cannot even give you such a blatant exemption.
