Lahore: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced three new champions tournaments in the domestic cricket season 2024-25.
Champions Cup ODI, Champions Cup T20 and Champions First Class Cup will be held in all three formats. The new season will begin on September 1 with the Champions Cup ODI tournament.
After the addition of three Champions tournaments, the PCB will now hold a total of 261 matches across eight senior men’s tournaments. These three events include 131 first-class matches, 40 fifty-over matches in two events and 97 T20 matches in three events.
Chairman PCB Mohsin Naqvi said in a press conference that the purpose of these tournaments is to bring our cricket to international standards, our current ranking does not reflect the real potential of Pakistan, so the original position is to be restored, from the future of Pakistan cricket. I am very hopeful.
Mohsin Naqvi said that the Champions Tournaments will bring together our most talented and consistent performers from domestic cricket with our centrally contracted players and create an environment that mirrors international cricket. With broadcast matches, legendary mentors, elite coaching staff and extensive media coverage, these tournaments will give our players the exposure and experience they need.
It should be noted that a total of 13 thousand matches will be played at pathway and development level in this season. The number of first-class and other matches also increased in the new domestic season.
The domestic players’ remuneration and match fees were also increased. A Category One player will get five and a half lakh rupees, compared to three lakh rupees in the previous season.
