Pakistan Confirms Participation in T20 World Cup :
Islamabad:
Pakistan has decided to participate in the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 but will not play its scheduled match against India, the government confirmed on Saturday.
According to an official statement shared on social media, the federal government has granted approval for the Pakistan national cricket team to take part in the ICC T20 World Cup 2026. However, it clarified that Pakistan will not compete in the match against India scheduled for February 15, 2026.
The decision was finalized following a high-level consultation between Chairman Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Mohsin Naqvi and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. Sources said the PCB sought government guidance before taking a final call on the team’s participation in the tournament.
Pakistan has been placed in Group A of the T20 World Cup alongside India, Netherlands, USA, and Namibia. As per the tournament schedule, Pakistan will begin its campaign against the Netherlands on February 7 in Colombo, while the high-profile Pakistan–India match was slated for February 15 in Colombo.
Earlier, sources indicated that the PCB was preparing for multiple scenarios. In case of non-participation, a Plan B was devised, which included organizing an alternative tournament in Lahore featuring Pakistan Shaheens and Under-18 teams.
Following the government’s approval, sources added that the national team’s World Cup kit is expected to be unveiled soon.
