Islamabad: In the long-running battle over ownership of basmati rice in the global market, Pakistan has defeated India on all sides and it has been recognized as a Pakistani product.
According to media reports, basmati rice has been recognized as a Pakistani product in the New Zealand and Australian markets, for which Pakistan had been struggling for a long time to prove its claim.
The report further states that a similar decision is likely from the European market, which will further strengthen Pakistan’s position in the global market.
India’s claims received a setback when traders and historians proved with evidence that basmati rice is a product of Hafizabad district of Pakistan and on this basis, Australia and New Zealand completely rejected India’s claim.
Pakistan’s basmati rice is famous all over the world, its exceptional quality and reasonable price give it further superiority in the global market, as a result of which Pakistan’s basmati rice exports have reached $4 billion and Pakistan has become a major participant in the $27 billion global rice market.
The report states that India has made great efforts to capture the global market to defeat Pakistan in the basmati rice trade, however, all its efforts have proved unsuccessful and Pakistan’s claims have been accepted in the world.
