Mumbai: India’s largest cricket association Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) is planning to build a new cricket stadium in Mumbai which will have a seating capacity of one lakh fans.
According to an Indian media report, the MCA is planning to build a new stadium in Thane district, which will be the third largest cricket stadium in the world and will be 68 km away from the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
An MCA spokesperson said the construction of the new cricket stadium is aimed at meeting the growing demand for cricket in Mumbai and providing a state-of-the-art facility to fans and players alike.
It is reported that the new stadium will be built on 50 acres of open land in Amane village. The MCA has reportedly submitted an open tender issued by the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) for land acquisition and is awaiting the Maharashtra government’s approval for the project.
The new stadium is being touted as a dream project of former MCA president Amul Kale, who passed away last month.
The report of the new stadium comes a day after Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis called for a bigger stadium during an event for Rohit Sharma, Surya Kumar Yadav, Shivm Dubey and Yashvi Jaiswal.
