A British newspaper has opened fire on the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) after the International Cricket Council (ICC) took care of India’s interests.
The British newspaper The Telegraph has revealed in its report that the reputation of the game is being badly affected to benefit India in the Champions Trophy, India is using its power to prevent Pakistan from hosting the final.
The report further states that the example of Indian influence in the game of cricket is not found in any other sport in the world, one country is using its undue power to prevent another country from hosting the event.
The newspaper raised the question that the venue of the Champions Trophy final will not be known until March 4, that is, 5 days in advance, where the event will be held, which is not the case in any sport.
Lahore is again preparing after hosting the 1996 World Cup final, fans and organizers do not know whether the final will be held in Lahore or not.
Pakistan was awarded the hosting rights of the Champions Trophy in 2021 with 15 matches, at that time there was no facility for India to play the matches in another country, but then a few months before the start of the tournament, due to BCCI pressure, the ICC showed its inclination and Pakistan was forced to host the event on a hybrid basis.
Similarly, the 7 countries in the Champions Trophy event do not know where they will play the knockout matches, only India alone knows where they will play the semi-finals and the final.
The reputation of the game for Indian interests continues to be sacrificed in ICC events. In the 2019 World Cup, India did not play any match for 8 days after the start of the tournament, while South Africa was playing the third match.
A gap of 15 days has been added from the end of the IPL to the international match. In the 2021 and 2022 T20 World Cups, India’s last group matches were kept at the end to see the run rate.
Similarly, India’s final matches in the T20 and ODI World Cups were played against weaker opponents. This year, India’s semi-final was held in Guyana without considering the group position in the T20 World Cup.
In the Champions Trophy, India will have to form a squad according to the conditions of one country, while the other 7 teams will have to look at the conditions of 2 countries for their squads.
