Tel Aviv: The Israeli cabinet has given final approval to appoint Major General Eyal Zamir as the new Chief of Staff of the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF).
According to Israeli media, Eyal Zamir has also served as Director General in the Defense Ministry. He will replace Lieutenant General Herzi Halevi, who resigned on October 7, 2023, calling the Hamas attack a military failure.
Eyal Zamir will assume duties as the 24th head of the Israeli army on March 5. In addition, Major General Tamir Yedai has been appointed as the new deputy army chief.
Experts say that after the appointment of Eyal Zamir, a change in Israel’s military strategy can be expected, especially in the Israeli army’s policy towards Gaza, the West Bank and Iran.
