Peshawar: Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ali Amin Gandapur has said that load shedding has made life miserable for the people, lest the reaction of the people get out of control.
The important meeting regarding electricity load shedding was chaired by Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ali Amin Gandapur, in which Chief Secretary, Additional Chief Secretary Interior, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister, Secretary Energy and senior police officials participated. In the meeting, after the Chief Minister’s meeting with the federal authorities, the situation of electricity load-shedding in the province, especially during Eid-ul-Azha, was reviewed.
In the meeting, the Chief Minister was briefed by the relevant authorities on the latest situation of load shedding in the province, recoveries and other issues, in which it was told that in the last one month, about one billion rupees were collected from the loss areas of the province with the support of the provincial government. has been recovered. Full police security has been provided to PSCO installations and staff in the province. For this purpose, specific police teams have been deployed in each district.

In the briefing, the participants were informed that zero load shedding was promised during Eid-ul-Azha, but it was not implemented. According to Pesco’s own statistics, load shedding of 12 to 18 hours was done in most areas of the province during Eid-ul-Azha. Since May 1, 2024, 81 different protests have been held in the province against unannounced load shedding.
In the briefing, it was said that for the first time in the province, women also protested against electricity loadshedding. If the situation does not improve, there is a possibility of serious law and order problems in the province.
On this occasion, Chief Minister KP Ali Amin Gandapur said that the provincial government is providing full cooperation as per its promise to solve the problems related to electricity. It is a pity that the federal government is not fulfilling its promises. For the first time, unannounced load shedding was done in most areas of the province on the occasion of Eid-ul-Adha. Unannounced load shedding is still being done despite substantial recoveries from the loss areas.
He said that due to this illegal loadshedding, the lives of people in the province have become miserable. Public reaction against unannounced loadshedding in the province is getting tougher and tougher. The protest against loadshedding is not of any political party or provincial government but it is a public issue and public reaction is not in vain. People are not getting water to drink at home and to perform ablution in mosques.
Ali Amin Gandapur said that the public reaction should not get out of control. The federal government has to show seriousness in this regard. They are giving full support to eliminate the losses in the province. The recovery situation has improved considerably during the last one month. No load shedding for more than 12 hours is acceptable in the province.
