AUCKLAND: Black Caps skipper of all three formats, Kane Williamson, has resigned from the white-ball team leadership and Central Connect, refusing to play domestic cricket.
33-year-old Kane Williamson, the highest Test run-scorer for New Zealand, has decided to prioritize international cricket over domestic cricket this summer.
It should be noted that it is necessary for New Zealand’s central contracted players that apart from international cricket, they will also be seen in action in the country’s ‘Super Smash T20 League’.
The New Zealand Cricket Board has planned to hold the Super Smash T20 League in January.
Kane Williamson defended his decision saying, “It’s an honor for me to play for the Black Caps, but I want to contribute to the New Zealand team in international competitions right now.”
The NZC said in a statement that Williamson could accept a central contract in the near future.
New Zealand Cricket chief executive Scott Wenning said that Kane Williamson’s decision is definitely against the board’s rules, but we are happy to make a concession to New Zealand’s greatest batsman of all time.
The New Zealand team will participate in a three-Test series against England in December this year.
The Black Caps have reached the semi-finals of either the T20 or 50-over World Cups since 2014, the first time a team has been knocked out of the first round of the T20 World Cup 2024 due to poor performance.
