Beirut: Israeli warplanes have launched a major attack in southern Lebanon.
The Israeli military says its warplanes hit hundreds of rocket launcher barrels in southern Lebanon over a two-hour period that were to be immediately fired at Israel.
The White House says a diplomatic solution is achievable and urgent, and Britain has called for an immediate ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah. White House spokeswoman Karen Jean-Pierre said at a briefing that the United States is “fearful and concerned” about the potential escalation.
The attacks followed a spate of attacks attributed to Israel by Lebanon and Hezbollah earlier this week, in which Hezbollah radios and pagers were blown up in Lebanon, killing 37 people and About 3,000 were injured.
According to Lebanon’s official news agency, more than 52 attacks were carried out in southern Lebanon. Three Lebanese security sources said the airstrikes were the heaviest since fighting began in October.
There were no immediate reports of casualties.
