TEL AVIV: Israel has agreed to a ceasefire agreement with Lebanon that will take effect immediately.
The ceasefire will take effect from 7 am Pakistan time. Both sides have accepted the ceasefire agreement between the United States and France.
US President Joe Biden said that the ceasefire will help to permanently stop the violence.
Earlier, Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu had also expressed his willingness to the ceasefire.
Under the ceasefire agreement, the Israeli army will withdraw from southern Lebanon and the Lebanese army will be deployed in the area.
Hezbollah will stop its military activities along the Israeli border. The Lebanese Foreign Minister said. 5,000 Lebanese army personnel are ready to be deployed.
According to Israeli TV, the agreement came after a meeting of the Israeli security cabinet headed by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, which discussed the ceasefire agreement.
Four senior Lebanese sources told the news agency that Israel’s approval of the agreement would pave the way for US President Joe Biden and French President Emmanuel Macron to announce a ceasefire.
Lebanese Foreign Minister Abdullah Bou Habib said the Lebanese army was ready to deploy at least 5,000 troops to southern Lebanon after the withdrawal of Israeli troops, and the United States could play a role in rebuilding infrastructure destroyed by Israeli attacks.
Israeli Defense Minister Katz said Israel demanded the United Nations effectively enforce the ceasefire with Lebanon and would demonstrate “zero tolerance” for any violations.
Despite the diplomatic breakthrough, Israel has dramatically increased its airstrike campaign in Beirut and other parts of Lebanon.
Officials say the ceasefire agreement in Lebanon requires the withdrawal of Israeli troops from southern Lebanon and the deployment of Lebanese troops in the area. Hezbollah will end its armed presence on the border south of the Litani River.
The announcement came hours after Israeli strikes devastated Beirut’s densely populated southern suburbs, a Hezbollah stronghold. The Israeli military said it struck 20 targets in the city in just 120 seconds, killing at least seven people and wounding 37, according to Lebanon’s health ministry.
