Islamabad: Lawyers attempt to go to Red Zone, clash with police, eye-to-eye exchange continues
During the protest against the 26th Constitutional Amendment and the meeting of the Judicial Commission to be held today, the Lawyers Action Committee tried to go to the Supreme Court from Serena Chowk in Islamabad, when a clash broke out between lawyers and police personnel. The police also lathi-charged the protesting lawyers.
The lawyers started a march towards the Supreme Court in protest, during which the administration had closed Serena Chowk with containers, and the administration has also completely sealed the Red Zone.
After the clash between the police and lawyers, the protesting lawyers dispersed, staged a sit-in on the Srinagar Highway and blocked the road leading to Murree, however, traffic is flowing on the road coming from Murree.
The administration has deployed a heavy contingent of police on all routes of the Red Zone of Islamabad, all the gates have been closed, due to which citizens are facing severe problems in transportation.
Later, on the initiative of Islamabad Police, the Lawyers Action Committee also cleared the Srinagar Highway. The lawyers vacated the Srinagar Highway and once again reached Serena Chowk Road. The police and the lawyers are in a state of confusion.
It should be noted that the Supreme Court Bar Association and all the Bar Councils of Pakistan have rejected the strike against the Judicial Commission meeting in a joint statement.
The Supreme Court Bar Association, Pakistan Bar Council, Punjab Bar Council, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Bar Council, Balochistan High Court Bar Association and Sindh High Court Bar Association had rejected the strike in a joint statement.
In this regard, the statement issued said that the elected representatives of the legal community stand with the independence of the judiciary and completely reject the call of the anarchic people on the occasion of the Judicial Commission meeting.
The statement said that some so-called mischievous elements in the legal community want to create chaos for their own nefarious purposes, the elected representatives will fully support the proceedings of the Judicial Commission.
