Islamabad: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar met UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres in New York, where cross-border terrorism, climate change and other issues were discussed.
According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar reiterated the central role of the United Nations in addressing global challenges including peace and security, development and climate change, and Pakistan’s strong support for it.
He highlighted Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to promoting global peace and security as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council (2025-2026). In his speech, the Deputy Prime Minister highlighted the importance of Pakistan’s role in the UN Charter, including international peacekeeping missions.
Ishaq Dar called for a just resolution of the occupied Kashmir dispute in accordance with Security Council resolutions. He also condemned Israel’s atrocities against the Palestinian people and said that Pakistan supports a two-state solution to the Palestinian issue, which includes the establishment of a viable and sovereign Palestinian state based on the pre-1967 borders with Jerusalem as its capital.
Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar also raised the issue of cross-border terrorism from Afghanistan and said that the United Nations should play its role in this matter.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres appreciated and thanked Pakistan for its active participation in the international organization and its role in peacekeeping missions for the establishment of global peace and security.
