Tehran: Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi has rejected the possibility of direct nuclear talks with the US and said that talks are not possible as long as Washington follows a policy of “maximum pressure”.
The US has imposed new sanctions on Iran, including on more than 30 ships and the head of the National Iranian Oil Company.
Araqchi said at a joint press conference with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in Tehran that Iran will not hold any talks under pressure, threats or sanctions.
Iran has launched new talks with Germany, France and the UK and announced continued close cooperation with Russia and China.
Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov visited Tehran and discussed economic, regional and 2015 nuclear deal issues.
Iran and Russia also took a close stance on Syria and announced support for Syria’s sovereignty and stability.
Both countries are under Western sanctions due to the Ukraine war, after which there has been an increase in mutual cooperation.
