India’s Jasprit Bumrah became the bowler to take 200 wickets with best average in Test cricket.
Jasprit Bumrah took his 200th wicket by dismissing Kangaroo batsman Travis Head in the match against Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, according to a report by Cricinfo, and joined the list of greatest fast bowlers in Test cricket.
Out of the 85 bowlers who have taken more than 200 Test wickets, only 12 have crossed the milestone in fewer matches than Bumrah, while the Indian bowler achieved this feat in his 44th Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
In terms of bowling average, Bumrah tops the list with 19.56 runs per wicket, while he is the first bowler in the world to concede less than 4,000 runs to take his first 200 wickets.
With a strike rate of 42.4, or one wicket every seven overs, Jasprit Bumrah is behind only Waqar Younis, Dale Steyn and Kagiso Rabada, all of whom have bowled brilliantly with both the new and old balls.
Bumrah also has an impressive record in South Africa, England, New Zealand and Australia, where he is the most wicket-taker of any Indian fast bowler in these countries.
Of Bumrah’s first 200 wickets, 64 were to the top three batsmen. He has dismissed the opposition openers 50 times and the batsmen coming to bat at number three 14 times. Number 4 is often the most important batsman in the team and Bumrah has dismissed the batsman coming at number 4 30 times. Bumrah’s top four wicket ratio is the seventh highest in the world overall and the best in India.
