Karachi: The Indian team resorted to negative tactics to win, taking unfair advantage of the ‘connection’ law in the fourth T20 against England.
Fast bowler Harisht Rana was brought into the field as a replacement for batting all-rounder Shivam Dubey, English captain Jos Buttler and former cricketers were furious at the host side’s move.
According to the details, India won the fourth T20 against England by 15 runs on Friday and won the 5-match series 1-3. The host was also accused of misuse of the connection law in this match.
Shivam Dubey was run out on the last ball of the Indian innings, due to which the previous ball hit his helmet, he scored 53 runs, later during bowling, India brought in Harisht Rana as a replacement for the connection.
He had previously represented India in only 2 Test matches, thus making his T20 debut as a substitute and dismissing key players of the visiting team Liam Livingston, Jacob Bethell and Jamie Orton.
According to ICC rules, the replacement for a player who suffers a head injury should be exactly the same, while India fielded specialist fast bowler Harisht Rana in place of batting all-rounder Shivam Dube.
After the defeat in the match, English captain Jos Buttler said that this was not a replacement for a connection player at all. Did Dube start bowling fast or has Harisht improved his batting a lot?
He said that there was no discussion with us regarding the replacement. When I saw him on the field and asked the umpire, he said that the match referee gave permission, we will ask referee Javagal Srinath about it.
Former English captains Kevin Pietersen and Michael Vaughan also criticized the introduction of Harisht. On the other hand, Indian bowling coach Morne Morkel said that Dube was feeling dizzy upon returning from the field. He was having dinner when we asked Harish to get ready, but he immediately came on the field and performed well.
