Imran Khan has filed a petition to hear the cases against him in open court, his sister told the media that the jailed politician will write another letter to the army chief next week.
The former prime minister, while filing a petition in the Islamabad High Court, has taken the position that several ‘false’ cases have been framed against him and he is being tried in the ‘controlled’ environment of Adiala Jail.
The petition took the position that Imran Khan’s trial in Adiala Jail is a violation of the law and the constitution, it was also claimed that his lawyers are being harassed.
The petition pointed out that since his imprisonment on August 5, 2023, Imran Khan has never been presented in open court, his cases in various cases were tried in makeshift courts inside the jail.
According to the petition, the jail administration did not allow international media to cover the trial proceedings and only a few journalists are allowed to watch the proceedings.
The petition further states that the media cannot even mention the former prime minister by name, and instead the term ‘PTI founder’ is used for him.
The petition urged the court to issue a direction for open hearing of Imran Khan’s cases, so as to ensure a fair trial as enshrined in the constitution.
His sister Aleema Khan, who met Imran Khan on Monday, said that the PTI founder will write a third letter to Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir next week.
Imran Khan has written two letters to the army chief in the past few days, which have also been shared with the media, however, the establishment has denied receiving any such message.
Talking to the media outside Adiala Jail, he said that the previous letters were not written for any agreement or any leniency, but rather their purpose was to make the ruling forces understand that differences between the armed forces and the people are growing.
She said that Imran Khan has clearly said that he will face all his cases before the current judges, despite the fact that judges are being recruited to ensure that they do not get justice.
Aleema Khan also made it clear that her brother will not make any deals, Imran Khan has said that my letter to the army chief was not for any deal, I wrote to explain that the army and the people have to unite and fight against terrorism.
She explained that it will be an open letter from the people, and people will read it. Ilmia Khan said that Imran Khan appreciated the big rally in Swabi on Saturday, which was also attended by people from Punjab and Sindh.
She said that Imran Khan has urged Chief Justice of Pakistan Yahya Afridi to ensure the rule of law and appealed to overseas Pakistanis to stand with democracy.
