US President Donald Trump had suspended aid and intelligence sharing for Ukraine, after which Zelensky was forced to accept US conditions.
According to reports, Trump had asked Ukraine for a deal on its mineral resources, so that US taxpayer money could be repaid to Ukraine during the tenure of former President Joe Biden.
After the suspension of US aid, European countries have started trying to find alternative routes, but Zelensky says there is no alternative to Washington’s security guarantees. On the other hand, Russia has intensified attacks on Ukraine, especially its energy facilities.
The US has indicated that Ukraine will have to make further concessions to restore aid, while Trump has also threatened to impose more sanctions on Russia if it does not show flexibility in the negotiations.
Marco Rubio also met with the Russian Foreign Minister last month, who severed high-level diplomatic relations between the US and Russia during the Biden era.
The talks are considered extremely important for global politics, and their outcome will have a direct impact on the Russia-Ukraine war, US foreign policy, and the European security situation.
