The implementation of Section 144 across Punjab was challenged in Lahore High Court, the petition took the position that the right to protest can be exercised under the Constitution.
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) lawyer Azhar Siddique Advocate filed a miscellaneous petition in Lahore High Court against the decision to implement Section 144 across Punjab.
The Punjab government and others have been made parties in the petition, the petition took the position that Section 144 was implemented across Punjab to stop the protest of Tehreek-e-Insaf.
The petitioner said that protesting under the Constitution is not an illegal act, the right to protest can be exercised under the Constitution.
Azhar Siddique Advocate requested the court to order a stay on the implementation of the notification implementing Section 144 in Punjab.
It should be noted that yesterday, the Punjab government had imposed Section 144 across the province for 3 days, which will be applicable from November 23 to November 25.
Under the notification, all kinds of protests, meetings, processions, rallies, sit-ins and public gatherings, including all other political activities, were banned in the province for 3 days.
