ISLAMABAD: International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) President Dominique Pardley has expressed deep concern over the recent legislation regarding freedom of expression in Pakistan.
IFJ President Dominique Pardley met with French Ambassador Nicolas Galle at the French Embassy in Islamabad. During the meeting, he stressed the need for the Pakistani government to implement restrictions in line with international conventions and the constitution regarding freedom of expression.
Dominique Pardley said that IFJ emphasizes the importance of organizing training programs for journalists in Pakistan and protecting freedom of expression.
He said that the recent legislation in Pakistan is not in line with international standards and is a clear violation of freedom of expression.
French Ambassador Nicolas Galle on this occasion termed freedom of expression as a fundamental pillar of democracy and said that France fully believes in this principle.
He added that France provided full support to Afghan journalists after the withdrawal of coalition forces, which is a worthy example.
PFUJ Secretary General Shakeel Ahmed and Federal Executive Council Member Dr. Furqan Rao were also present in the meeting.
The French Ambassador thanked the President of the International Federation of Journalists and promised to start training programs for journalists in Pakistan soon.
