Punjab Governor Saleem Haider has said that he is not being taken into confidence by the PML-N in the decision-making process, so he will never meet Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz again.
There was also bitterness between the Punjab Governor and the Punjab Chief Minister over the delay in the appointment of Vice Chancellors in the province’s universities. This time, he expressed disappointment over the attitude of the provincial government during a meeting with participants of a security workshop organized by the National Defense University in Islamabad in the provincial capital.
Saleem Haider said that Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has become a queen. Referring to the appointment of Vice Chancellors, he claimed that she never calls or consults me on matters of merit.
Talking about the support of the federal government, he said, “If the PPP withdraws its support, the PML-N government will kneel down.”
He alleged that merit is being violated in Punjab, as an ally, the PPP should be consulted on all governance matters.
The Punjab Governor pointed out that despite his constitutional position and protocol, he himself went to meet Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz and tried to assure her that the PPP would not create any problem for her.
“During the last 6 months, I tried to contact him on the phone several times, but there was no response because he never consulted on any issue, so now I will not meet him.”
Saleem Haider said that relations between the two parties in Punjab are at a standstill and he has informed the top leadership of the PPP about the situation.
He reminded that the experience of forming an alliance with the PML-N has been bitter in the past as well, however, the PPP hoped that the PML-N would have learned lessons from the past, but despite written agreements and the formation of consultative committees, the decisions were never implemented.
