Islamabad: Federal Minister for Energy Owais Leghari has said that in one to two months the government will give good news regarding IPPs.
Addressing the National Youth Convention in Islamabad, Federal Minister for Energy Owais Laghari said that in one to two months, the government will announce such good news regarding IPPs that the people and the industrialists will all benefit, and Pakistan will move towards improvement. Ga, the matter is being worked on, various agencies including the government and secret agencies are all working together on it and will soon give results on IPPs.
He said that Pakistan’s electricity production capacity is not 45 thousand but 29 thousand MW, the electricity demand is only 7 thousand MW throughout the year, the peak demand is 24 thousand MW, 1845 MW for only 85 hours of demand in a year. It has to be kept in the system, besides there is no demand for it, it costs 50 billion rupees annually.
The Minister of Energy said that if 1845 MW is not kept in the system, 85 hours of load shedding will have to be done in the country. which are load shedding free where there are no line losses.
Owais Leghari said that if 10% of the 8760 hours of the year i.e. 874 hours of load shedding is tolerated, then there will be a saving of 100 billion rupees in capacity payment. Capacity payment is actually the price of avoiding load shedding. They are giving the most expensive electricity.
