In the match played in Mongkok, Pakistan defeated South Africa by 17 runs in the second quarter-final to reach the semi-finals of the event.
Batting first, Pakistan scored 105 runs in the allotted 6 overs, captain Faheem Ashraf and Asif Ali returned to the pavilion on behalf of the green shirts, but Muhammad Akhlaq showed aggressive batting with the help of 7 sixes and 2 fours on 16 balls. Played an innings of 52 runs, similarly Hussain Talat remained not out by scoring 27 runs.
South Africa did not start well in pursuit of the target, captain JJ Stams scored 6 runs while Jacques Snyman scored 5 runs, Evan Jones played a resistant innings of 46 runs, but the team could not win the match.
