Islamabad:Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has reiterated the government’s unwavering commitment to empowering Pakistan’s young generation with modern technology, digital skills, and artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities. Speaking on the occasion of International Youth Day, the Prime Minister emphasized that youth are the backbone of the nation’s economic, technological, and social progress, and preparing them for the demands of the modern digital economy is among the government’s highest priorities.
International Youth Day 2025 – A Global Call for Empowerment
Every year, International Youth Day is observed worldwide on August 12 to acknowledge the contributions of young people to their societies and to promote policies that address the challenges they face. This year’s global theme focuses on “Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for Youth”, highlighting how the younger generation can contribute to achieving economic, social, and environmental stability.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif noted that the youth of Pakistan are not only a source of national pride but also a critical driver of progress. With more than 64% of Pakistan’s population under the age of 30, the country holds one of the largest youth populations in the world. This demographic dividend, if effectively harnessed, could become the foundation of a modern, knowledge-driven economy.
Youth as the Driving Force of National Development
In his message, the Prime Minister praised the courage, resilience, and determination of Pakistani youth, describing them as “the main wheel in the country’s economic development.” He highlighted that the younger generation has consistently proven its worth — from excelling in academics and sports to achieving breakthroughs in technology, business, and innovation.
“Our youth have made Pakistan’s name shine not just nationally, but globally,” he said.
“They are the innovators, the entrepreneurs, and the leaders of tomorrow.”
Linking Youth Empowerment with Sustainable Development Goals
The Prime Minister stressed that the celebration of International Youth Day 2025 is particularly meaningful as it comes in the context of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Pakistan’s youth, he said, are essential in areas such as:
- Quality education (SDG 4)
- Decent work and economic growth (SDG 8)
- Industry, innovation, and infrastructure (SDG 9)
- Climate action (SDG 13)
Young people are already contributing to community development projects, environmental protection efforts, and social entrepreneurship. By providing them with modern skills and knowledge, the government aims to ensure they can compete successfully in the global market.
National Artificial Intelligence Policy 2025 – Preparing Youth for the Digital Age
One of the major initiatives under the government’s vision for youth empowerment is the National Artificial Intelligence Policy 2025. The policy is designed to:
- Introduce AI-based learning in schools and universities.
- Create training programs for youth in machine learning, data science, robotics, and cybersecurity.
- Promote AI research centers and innovation hubs across the country.
- Facilitate public-private partnerships for AI-based startups.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif emphasized that artificial intelligence is no longer a futuristic concept — it is today’s reality, and Pakistan must equip its young people with the skills to master it. The policy is also expected to help the country transition into a digital economy, where automation, big data, and AI-driven solutions will define competitiveness.
National Youth Skill Development Program – Building a Skilled Workforce
In addition to AI training, the Prime Minister highlighted the National Youth Skill Development Program (NYSDP), which aims to train millions of young Pakistanis in both traditional and modern skills. The program covers areas such as:

- Providing modern farming equipment at subsidized rates
- Training in sustainable agricultural practices

The Prime Minister noted that agriculture-focused entrepreneurship can help young people earn livelihoods while also contributing to national food security.
