The federal government has decided to extend the tenure of DG ISI Lt Gen Asim Malik, while the Prime Minister has directed him to continue his services.
According to security sources, the federal government has decided to extend the tenure of DG ISI, under which Lt Gen Asim Malik will continue his services, while the Prime Minister has directed DG ISI to continue his services.
Additionally, Lt Gen Asim Malik is also the Prime Minister’s National Security Advisor and he will continue to work in this position.
According to security sources, Lt. Gen. Muhammad Asim Malik, the head of Pakistan’s intelligence agency Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), will continue to serve in his current position. He was appointed DG ISI in September 2024, replacing Lt. Gen. Nadeem Anjum.
In April 2025, the government also gave Lt. Gen. Asim Malik the extra charge of National Security Advisor (NSA) to ensure more effective coordination and coordination in national security policymaking and its practical implementation.
Lt. Gen. Asim Malik is considered a highly capable and professional officer of the Pakistan Army, having led an infantry division in Balochistan and an infantry brigade in South Waziristan — areas that have been at the center of the country’s security challenges for the past two decades. Lt. Gen. Asim Malik is an officer who has received the Sword of Honor from the Pakistan Military Academy.
This honor is given to the best cadet of each course. Lieutenant General Asim Malik is a graduate of Fort Leavenworth, USA and the Royal College of Defence Studies, UK.
He has also served as Chief Instructor at the National Defence University (NDU) and Instructor at the Command and Staff College, Quetta.
He is the son of Lieutenant General (retd) Ghulam Muhammad Malik, who held senior positions in the Pakistan Army in the 1990s.
