German star footballer Mesut Ozil has entered politics by joining Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s political party, the Justice and Development Party.
The statement issued by the Justice and Development Party said that the 37-year-old former German footballer has been elected a member of the ruling party’s Central Council.
Star footballer Ozil, who is associated with big football clubs like Real Madrid and Arsenal, was supported by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in the election, indicating that the star footballer will soon join the ruling party’s platform in politics.

Mesut Ozil was born on October 15, 1988, to a family of Turkish origin in a refugee camp in West Germany.
Before Mesut Ozil became a footballer, his father was a blacksmith, while he used to sell chicken products in his youth.
Ozil made his international debut in a friendly match against Norway in February 2009, while he has also won the title of Germany’s best player in 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2015.
Representing the German team, Mesut Ozil scored 30 goals in 92 matches.
The star footballer was disheartened by the attitude of the Football Association in 2018 and announced his retirement from international football.
