GEORGIA, US: Jimmy Carter, the 39th President of the United States, has died at the age of 100.
The Carter Center says he died Sunday afternoon at his home in Plains, Georgia.
His son called him a hero to anyone who believes in peace, human rights and selfless love.
Jimmy Carter surpassed George H.W. Bush in March 2019 to become the longest-serving former US president and was the first US president to reach 100 years of age.

Carter was a peanut farmer and Navy lieutenant before his political career. He served as the governor of Georgia before serving as president of the United States from 1977 to 1981.
He was also awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.
His wife, Rosalynn Carter, who was known for her advocacy for mental health and humanitarian work, died in November 2023 at the age of 96.
The Carters were married for more than 75 years and were the longest-married president and first lady in U.S. history.
Jimmy Carter’s service has been recognized in various circles. Habitat for Humanity, a charitable organization with which Carter was associated for decades, called him a “true friend.”
The organization built, repaired, or restored more than 4,300 homes in 14 countries under the CarterWork project. Jimmy Carter’s contributions to human rights and world peace are being remembered around the world, with historic initiatives such as the Camp David Accords under his leadership.
President Joe Biden paid tribute to him on his 100th birthday and called him a great man and public servant upon his death.
Carter’s funeral will be announced soon, and public events will be held in Georgia and Washington, D.C.
