Taruba: West Indies defeated South Africa by 7 wickets in the first T20I to take a 0-1 lead in the series.
In the first match of the series played at the Brian Lara Stadium, West Indies achieved the target of 175 runs in the 18th over for the loss of 3 wickets.
Nicholas Pooran scored 65 not out for West Indies. Shai Hope 51, Alec Athanze 40 and captain Rowman Powell were dismissed with 7 runs.
Roston Chase returned to the pavilion not out scoring 4 runs.
Baartman took 2 wickets and Koena Mfaka 1 wicket for South Africa.
Earlier, South Africa scored 174 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in the allotted 20 overs while batting first at West Indies’ invitation.
Tristan Stubbs was outstanding for the Proteas by scoring 76 runs. Patrick Kruger 44, captain Aiden Markram 14, Donovan Ferreira 8, Reci van der Dusen 5, Ryan Rickleton 4 and Reeza Hendricks scored 4 runs.
Jorn Fortun 11 and Kuina Mafaka returned to the pavilion not out scoring 1 run.
For West Indies, Matthew Ford took 3 wickets, Shamar Joseph took 2 wickets while Aqeel Hussain and Romario Shepherd took 1 and 1 wicket respectively.
