President approves appointment of CDF, extension of Chief of Air Staff.
ISLAMABAD, Dec 04 (APP):President Asif Ali Zardari has approved the summary submitted by the Prime Minister for the appointment of Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir NI(M), HJ, Chief of Army Staff, concurrently as Chief of Defence Forces for a period of five years.
He has also approved a two-year extension in the service of Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmad Babar Sidhu NI(M), HJ, Chief of Air Staff, to take effect from the completion of his present tenure on 19 March 2026.
The President extended his best wishes to the COAS, concurrently the Chief of Defence Forces and the Chief of Air Staff for their successful tenures.

PM Shehbaz sends summary for Field Marshal Asim Munir’s appointment as CDF to Presidency.
ISLAMABAD, Dec 04 (APP):Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has sent the summary of the appointment of Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir as Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces to the President House after approval.
Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir will be the Chief of Army Staff as well as the Chief of Defence Forces. This appointment is for a period of five years.
Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir will be the country’s first Chief of Defence Forces.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also approved a two-year extension in the tenure of Chief of Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Babar Sidhu.
This extension will be effective upon completion of his current five-year term in March 2026.

Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif Thursday congratulated Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir on his appointment as Pakistan’s first Chief of Defence Forces.
He expressed best wishes for Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir.
He said, “The appointment of the Chief of Defence Forces is in line with contemporary and modern warfare requirements. The country’s defence will improve further.”
“Under the leadership of Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, our brave forces delivered a crushing defeat to the enemy,” he added.
He said, “Under the leadership of Field Marshal, the brilliant success in Marka e Haq made Pakistan’s name shine all over the world and the country gained respect.”
The Prime Minister also congratulated and expressed good wishes to Chief of Air Staff Zaheer Ahmed Babar Sidhu on his two-year extension in service.
He said, “Under the leadership of Zaheer Ahmed Babar Sidhu, the Pakistan Air Force destroyed enemy warplanes with its excellent professional skills during Marka e Haq and frightened the enemy.”
“All institutions of the country will work together for the defence, development and prosperity of Pakistan,” he remarked.
He said, “Together, we will make the country’s defence impregnable.”

Ayaz Sadiq said that the appointment of Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir as Chief of Defence Forces is highly commendable and will further strengthen the harmony among Pakistan’s Army, Navy, and Air Force under his leadership.
He added that the nation takes immense pride in the courage and bravery of Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Chief of Defence Forces.
Ayaz Sadiq also paid tribute to Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir for his bold decisions during Indian aggression.
He said that under the leadership of the Chief of Defence Forces, the Pakistan Armed Forces gave a decisive response to Indian attacks and enhanced Pakistan’s stature at both regional and global levels.
He further noted that the Armed Forces, under his leadership, have taken highly effective measures to eliminate the menace of terrorism.
Ayaz Sadiq expressed confidence that Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir’s appointment would prove to be beneficial for the country and would play a crucial role in strengthening Pakistan’s defence capabilities.
He also congratulated the Chief of Air Staff, Air Chief Zaheer Babar Sidhu, on the extension of his tenure.
