Islamabad, October 11, 2024 – The Federal Investigation Agency and the Ministry of Interior organized an Inter-Ministerial Consultative Workshop today to discuss Pakistan’s Anti-Trafficking Action Plan for 2024-2025.
The workshop brought together representatives from various government departments and international organizations to review and strategize efforts to combat human trafficking in the country.The workshop was opened with remarks by Mr. Waqas Mehmood, Special Secretary, Ministry of Interior, and Mr. Muhammad Jaffar, Additional Director General, Law Wing, FIA HQ.Key discussions centered on the importance of Pakistan’s Tier Ranking and the consequences of the United States State Department’s findings on human trafficking, highlighted by Mr. Muhammad Hamza, Assistant Director (USA) from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.In a technical session, presentations were made to address the concerns raised in the U.S. State Department’s 2024 Trafficking in Persons (TIP) report. These presentations were delivered by Rai Nasrullah, Deputy Director, FIA CBC, and Ms. Seep Jan, Section Officer (MMC), Ministry of Interior, Islamabad. The role of international organizations in combating human trafficking was discussed by Ms. Shahida Gillani of the UNODC.During the workshop, the progress of the TiP committees with regards to the Anti-Trafficking Action Plan was reviewed and the targets for 2024-2025 were discussed.
