Lahore High Court Justice Sultan Tanveer Ahmed excused himself from the hearing on the petition filed against the Election Amendment Act 2024.
Justice Sultan Tanveer Ahmed heard the petition of citizen Munir Ahmed. Advocate Azhar Siddique appeared in the court on behalf of the petitioner. The Federal Government, Election Commission and various political parties have been made parties in the petition.
Justice Sultan Tanveer Ahmad remarked that the present application is related to the interpretation of the Supreme Court decision, I am not available in the Lahore High Court principal seat, so I am sending the case file to Acting Chief Justice Lahore High Court today.
The petitioner contends that the Act seeks to nullify the decision of the Supreme Court on specific seats, the Election Amendment Act, 2024 cannot be applied retroactively.
It has been urged that the Election Amendment Act 2024 be declared unconstitutional, barring allotment of reserved seats to any party other than PTI till the final decision of the petition.
