Federal Law Minister Azam Nazir Tarar has said that the Charter of Democracy played an important role in the country’s politics and continuity of democracy is the guarantor of the country’s development.
Addressing the 2-day 18th Speakers’ Conference in Islamabad, the Law Minister said that the 1973 Constitution was unanimously approved, the Constitution continued to be amended, the 17th Amendment was very important, but in the 18th Amendment, powers were transferred to the provinces, the Center showed arrogance in transferring powers to the provinces.
He said that caution was taken at the time of the 18th Amendment, especially in the criminal laws, which placed the federation so that there would be uniform laws throughout the country.
He said that similarly, Article 144 gave the authority that the province can allow the center to legislate on a subject through a resolution, but it will be the province’s authority to later amend or repeal this law.
The Law Minister said that the Charter of Democracy played an important role in the country’s politics and the continuity of democracy is the guarantor of the country’s development. The purpose of the democratic system is to benefit those who sent us to the assemblies or whom we represent.
He said that in the parliamentary system, it is our responsibility to protect the rights of the people, the government has to decide how to run the system.
‘The job of speakers is the most difficult’
Earlier, National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq, while addressing the 18th Speakers Conference, said that the job of assembly speakers is the most difficult.
He said that if the government gets more time, the opposition gets angry and if the opposition is given more time, the government gets angry.
He further said that the issue of production orders is also very important. One thing is certain: if something went wrong earlier, it will be corrected now.
