Islamabad: The Election Commission of Pakistan has sought response from the authorities of Adiala Jail Rawalpindi for not presenting Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf founder Imran Khan via video link in the contempt case.
The contempt of Election Commission and Chief Election Commissioner case against the founder PTI was heard, a 3-member commission headed by Sindh Member Nisar Durrani conducted the hearing.
Imran Khan’s lawyer Faisal Chaudhry said that at the previous hearing, the commission had ordered the presence of the founder PTI via video link, the Sindh member inquired whether arrangements were made for the presence via video link?
The Election Commission officials replied that the arrangements are complete from our side, the video link has not been activated from the jail, our staff is there, contact is not being made due to jammers, the jail authorities are not cooperating at all.
Faisal Chaudhry said that I think that the founder of PTI will not be allowed to appear on video link, every unannounced ban on playing the picture and statement of the founder of PTI is an unannounced ban, if there is no attendance through video link, then the commission should summon the founder of PTI here.
The lawyer of the commission said that there may be a technical problem, non-presentation does not seem deliberate,
Evidence cannot be recorded without the presence of the accused.
Faisal Chaudhry said that actions depend on intentions, let the commission go now, drop the case.
Member Sindh said that you are fighting the case, how can we drop it, Faisal Chaudhry said that a contempt case is also made due to the non-cooperation of the jail authorities.
After hearing the arguments, the Election Commission sought a response from the jail authorities and further hearing of the matter, the Election Commission adjourned the hearing of the case until January 15.
