Islamabad: The Chief Justice of Pakistan’s meeting with executive officials and members of key opposition parties has sparked a debate on the role of the judiciary in political matters and its implications.
According to political experts, such a development is unprecedented in the past. PILDAT chief Ahmed Bilal Mehboob said that it was an unwise move for the Chief Justice to meet the Prime Minister and the PTI delegation, now if other parties also demand to meet the Chief Justice, it will be difficult for them.
Professor Tahir Naeem Malik of NUML University said that in the last few decades, no one has invited or met political parties to discuss political, judicial and other issues.
The Chief Justice tried to step out of the institutional role and resolve the political crisis, which can be interpreted in many ways, but the simple fact is that this is not his job.
