The International Cricket Council (ICC) has called an emergency meeting on November 26 over the inflexible stance of the Pakistan and India boards on the Champions Trophy, however, preparations are being made to celebrate Pakistan in this meeting as well.
According to media reports, ICC officials should try to convince Pakistan on the hybrid model, but there will be no question about the non-participation of the Indian Board (BCCI).
PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has categorically stated that Pakistan will host the tournament and if India does not come, the ninth team Sri Lanka will be included in its place.
However, the non-participation of the Indian team could cause financial losses for the ICC because billions were given by broadcasters for the Pakistan-India matches, the media rights of which have also been sold.
On the other hand, on December 1, the command of the International Cricket Council is to be handed over to the current BCCI Secretary Jay Shah.
Reports have suggested that Pakistan will be the only country to be persuaded to adopt a hybrid model in the meeting, while if the Indian team reaches the semi-finals and finals, their venues will also change.
If India’s stubbornness on the Champions Trophy issue persists, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) may also refuse to play with India in ICC tournaments.
